General Sentiment
Asian shares retreated this morning as the spread of the Delta variant is very much weighing on market sentiment. Following a mixed U.S. session, after the consumer price index figures eased inflation fears. The lower-than-expected figures were unable to positively impact the Asian market.
Equities
The Dow and the S&P 500 closed at record highs overnight, after the U.S. CPI figures increased 0.5% in the last month, Whilst gains in the basic materials, industrials, and utilities sector closed higher, the tech sector dropped 0.16%.
Currency Market
The dollar index retreated from its 4-month peak as yields dropped. The USD steadied around 0.1% to 92.89.
The Euro gained on the back of the dollar's retreat, rising to 1.174 after touching a $1.170 low in the previous session.
Commodities; Gold
Gold held on to overnight gains, as it rose 1.3%. after CPI eased inflation fears.
Commodities; Oil
Oil slightly dropped from its overnight gains as well, WTI dropped 0.03% to steady at $69.23 while Brent rose $71.43 per barrel.
